REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology is a preventative technique through applying gentle pressure to reflex points situated mostly on the feet and hands. It brings deep relaxation and encourages healing.

As a treatment it is completely safe, non-medicinal and natural. It  can enhance and harmonize body functions, boost the immune system and promote mental and physical wellbeing

Reflexology has its roots in the most ancient civilizations: Egyptian, Indian, Chinese and Greek. there is evidence in paintings and tombs of rubbing soles as early as 3,000 BC. The Emperor of China Chouankti, in 2000 BC writes about reflexology in one of his books. Aristotle makes reference to voluntary and involuntary reflexes. Asclepius considered massaging to be the ultimate form of healing and Hippocrates spoke of the transmittal of energy from the healthy parts of the body to the less healthy. Today, it is the most popular form of healing practiced in China, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea and with increasing popularity in Europe and the United States.

Reflexology is based on the principle that organs, nerves, glands and other parts of the body are connected to certain reflex points in the hands and feet. By stimulating these points through pressure, circular rubbing and other gentle massaging, the reflexologist can "tune" the body so as to bring about a therapeutic response to any ailing part of it. For example, working the head’s reflex point (located on the big toe) we can activate the healing power of the body to relieve headache.

Reflexology does not constitute medical practice and can’t be used as a diagnostic agent. It doesn’t cure but activates the body's ability to self-heal. It does not interfere with nor stands in opposition to conventional medicine. It complements and acts to supplement any other treatment so as to achieve even better results.

Zone Therapy

Zone Therapy is the basis of reflexology. The reflexologist applies pressure or massages specific areas of the feet and hands to stimulating circulation and activate neural synapses so as to restore vitality in all zones of the body.

Reflexology is based on the principle of Zone Therapy, whereby the body is divided into ten horizontal zones in a simple analogy. Each finger corresponds to a zone and there are five zones in each foot. These zones divide the entire body and vital energy circulates upwards and downwards within them and distributed το the organs. This vital energy should flow unimpeded so that the organs, muscles, nerves, glands and blood supply can work in balance and harmony to achieve optimal health. Should this flow be blocked, there will be a negative impact on the organ or part of the body relating to that zone.

The body communicates such blockages directly to the reflex points in the form of nodules or knots before these even appear as recognisable symptoms of an ailment. An experienced reflexologist "feels’’ these blockages in the reflex points before they manifest corporeally. Should he locate a sensitive point on the feet or hands it indicates that there is an imbalance across the entire corresponding zone.

So, when a reflexologist applies pressure to reflex points in the foot, it is automatically as if working on the whole body. By so doing, the reflexologist can firstly, work directly on the reflex point to restore the blockage and secondly, call attention early on to the problem so that the patient can be run diagnostic tests and given medical treatment .
